Answered: Your Most Burning Questions About Chastity Cage Safety

The most frequently asked questions about wearing a chastity cage concern whether locking your penis in a device long-term causes any permanent damage. Will it shrink my penis? Will it cause erectile dysfunction (ED)? We answer your most burning questions about chastity cage safety in today’s post.

Myths, misinformation, and downright lies associated with long-term male chastity abound on the internet. That comes as no surprise. Anyone can say anything on the web, which is why you should take everything you read on the internet with a grain of salt. Provided you choose a properly fitting device, and follow some common sense safety and hygiene recommendations, wearing a chastity cage is safe. Very safe.

No medical evidence or scientific studies exist suggesting that wearing a chastity device is unhealthy or unsafe in the short or long term. Factually, no one has done any research about the impact of wearing chastity devices on penis health, but we can infer much from general penis health research, and there is a much of that. First, we will look at the two biggest myths associated with wearing chastity cages, and then we’ll review the common sense safety and hygienic precautions I mentioned.

Does Wearing a Chastity Device Shrink the Penis?

I’ve read plenty of claims on chastity websites and other forums where men claim wearing a chastity device long-term shrank their penises substantially. Here is what a guy posted on one forum I found.

“I’ve been in permanent chastity for several years now. My wife unlocks me every couple of weeks for a deep clean. In my case, I can definitely state that my penis has shrunk considerably, and maintaining an erection is impossible.”

In another post on a chastity forums website, I read a post by a guy who claimed his peen had shrunk by three full inches from wearing a chastity cage.

Sorry, but none of those anecdotal claims are true. Wearing a chastity cage will not reduce the length of a penis, not even wearing a cage that is considerably shorter than flaccid length. Almost always, when you read claims from men that wearing a chastity device cost them length, they will reveal at the end that they are into small penis humiliation (SPH) or being cuckolded. So they want their penises to shrink and convince themselves it happened.

We all know many guys not hung like a porn star have insecurities about the size of their dicks. I read a study where men with average size penises reported believing their penises were shorter than average. Guys like that who believe they have small dicks are the ones who typically embrace small penis fetishes. The facts are 95 percent of men have an average size penis. The remaining 5 percent have larger than average or smaller than average. So, if you’re reading this and feel your peen is smaller than average, it’s probably average.

According to one study published in the British Journal of Urology International (BJUI) Trusted Source, the average length of a flaccid penis is 3.61 inches, while the average length of an erect penis is 5.16 inches. So grab a measuring tape and prove it to yourself. You’re probably within the bell curve.

The penis shortens with age because of a loss of elasticity, usually between one-half inch to an inch. Prostate surgery can also cause a loss of length. If you put on a lot of weight or you have a thick bush of public hair, your penis will look shorter even though it isn’t. Men who lose length, or think they have and who wear chastity cages for long periods may attribute it wearing the devices when the explanation lies elsewhere.

Does Wearing a Chastity Device Cause Erectile Dysfunction?

Chasity device wear causing erectile dysfunction (ED) is another claim you find frequently on the internet, but it is all anecdotal. There is no medical literature that backs up these claims. Not to say there aren’t men in long-term chastity who suffer from ED, but it’s unlikely caused by wearing a chastity device.

Erectile dysfunction (impotence) is the inability to get and keep an erection firm enough for sex. Male sexual arousal is a complex process that involves the brain, hormones, emotions, nerves, muscles and blood vessels. Erectile dysfunction can result from a problem with any of these. Likewise, stress and mental health concerns can cause or worsen erectile dysfunction.

Here are some leading causes of ED, according to the Mayo Clinic. Heart disease, clogged blood vessels (atherosclerosis), high cholesterol, high blood pressure, diabetes, obesity, certain prescription medications, tobacco use, alcohol and other forms of substance abuse, sleep disorders, and low testosterone. One or more of those is probably behind ED reported by chastity cage wearers.

Chastity Device Wear and Nocturnal Penile Tumescence

I have read articles by two different urologists that had concerns about chastity device wear. Their concern was that the restrictions that cages put on nocturnal penile tumescence (nighttime erections) could be harmful. Men typically have 3–5 erections per 8 hours of sleep.

The parasympathetic nervous system, part of the nervous system that controls many of the things that happen in our bodies without us having to think about it, like digestion, urination, and sexual arousal, causes nocturnal penile tumescence. The latest research suggests that the penis needs a fresh supply of oxygenated blood from time to time and that’s why nighttime erections happen. There are other theories too, but what’s important is they happen for a reason and are necessary.

So, I can understand why these doctors feel we shouldn’t stifle nighttime erections by locking our penises in a restrictive cage. However, chastity devices don’t prevent erections completely. The penis still becomes engorged with blood, they just can’t grow into full-sized, normal length, or sometimes girth. While I’m not a doctor, common sense suggests we still probably get most of the benefits from nocturnal penile tumescence even while caged.

I see no reason to believe long-term wear of a chastity device causes ED. I’ve never suffered from ED as an ongoing issue, but like most men, I’ve had erection trouble from time to time. And, as I got older, my erections weren’t always as firm or long lasting as when I was younger. But, while also anecdotal, my experience since I started male chastity has been the opposite of ED. When I’m not wearing a chastity device, my erections are reliably firmer and last longer than I had experienced in a long while before I started wearing chastity devices. So, I have no concerns at all that chastity may cause ED.

Your Love Muscle isn't a Muscle Actually

Contrary to popular belief, your love muscle isn’t a muscle. A penis is an organ and there are no muscles in it. Organs don’t atrophy like muscles from disuse, but only in cases of some wasting disease or malnutrition. That’s why none of the penis exercise stuff you see on the internet will make your penis bigger. Your penis is the size it has been since your teenage years. There is nothing short of surgery that will make your penis larger or smaller.

Common Sense Penis Care Measures for Men Wearing Chastity Devices

Proper Fit

Size matters when it comes to a properly fitted chastity device. You want a device that is not too tight or snug, and doesn’t rub or pinch any part of your peen. For best results, carefully measure your penis and use the dimensions in choosing the cock cage that fits you perfectly. This is especially critical when it comes to choosing a proper size base ring. It is common to see men go for a base ring size that is too small. Perhaps, they believe that a tighter fit makes the device more secure. But a base ring that is too small comes with serious health dangers to the penis. A ring that is too tight can restrict normal blood circulation and damage nerves. Also, when the ring is too tight, the skin of the penis and scrotum can be bruised, chafed, or broken, leaving behind patches of raw, sensitive, and irritated skin. With time, these sites can attract infections.

Hygiene

The next thing is to keep your penis and cage clean at all times. A clean cage comes with a couple of advantages, the absence of bad odor and skin irritation. A man wearing a cock cage should shower or bathe daily. If the cage is an open-type with sufficient slits, holes, and breathable spaces that facilitate cleaning without removing it, a handheld shower head is usually all that’s needed.

Never wear a solid cage that fully encloses the penis for more than four days without removing it to give both the cage and your penis a deep cleaning. This helps you avoid skin rashes, bad odors, and infections.

Regular Inspections

Examine your penis and testicles regularly to ensure that there is no discoloration, bruises, cuts, chaffing, or irritated skin of any form.

Erections

It’s a good practice to allow yourself to have a normal erection whenever you remove your chastity device for a deep cleaning. This can give you added peace of mind.

Lubrication

Lubrication is important when you are new to wearing a chastity device. A little lube around the base ring can prevent chafing, irritated skin, and rashes. Once your skin acclimates to the device and toughens up, lube shouldn’t be necessary if you have a properly fitted device. There are different lubes you can use from baby to water-based or silicone-based personal lubricants.

Contrary to anecdotal accounts you may read on the internet, there is no evidence that wearing the cock cage makes the testicles or penis shrink, or causes ED.

Post Six Months in Chastity After Action Review

In this post-six months in chastity after action review, I’m finally sharing my long-promised experiences after completing my longest period of consecutive days in chastity.

Ever since I embraced the chastity life, I’ve read and heard other guys expressing concerns about the potential negative consequences of spending long periods wearing a chastity device. I’ve even seen claims posted around the web by guys who have attributed various ills, assertions of erectile dysfunction (ED) one of the more prominent, to long-term chastity cage wear.

Clearly, six-months in chastity isn’t a terribly long time compared to the experiences of the permanent chastity studs like Thumper. Still, it’s a good milestone for me to review the experiences of my chastity journey. I’ll lead off with the obligatory disclaimers. I’m not a urologist, and I don’t even play one on television. These are my own experiences, and since we’re all unique human beings, your mileage might vary if you engage in long-term chastity.

Honey, I Shrunk the Penis

There are two divergent paths of thought within the chaste community regarding chastity devices and penis shrinkage. The prospect is frightening for some guys, while others long (pun intended) to experience it. It’s generally guys for whom small penis humiliation (SPH) is a favorite kink who hope to shrink their willies.

Chastity Devices and Penis Shrinkage

A woman I consider to be very knowledgeable on male chastity and who has introduced hundreds if not thousands of men to the chastity life makes this claim.

It’s pretty common to see a half-inch [penis] length reduction right away if you’re wearing a cage 3-4 weeks at a time with no more than a couple of days off. If you keep that schedule, you’re not likely to see more change than that. But over time, without breaks, that half-inch can grow to an inch or more. A short cage combined with several months of continuous wear can shrink a 6.5-inch penis to 4.5 inches. I’ve seen it with my own tape measure. If the wearer were to stop wearing at that point, he might recover a half-inch in length, but that would be it.

My source bases her opinions of penis shrinkage on observations of men she has personally key held for, which is a rather staggering number. But she admits she has never kept scientific-grade notes or even measured penises at regular intervals. So, I believe we must take her assertions with a grain of salt since her shrinkage opinions are purely anecdotal and not supported by any scientific evidence.

Seeing the Big Picture

Let’s assume for a moment that the long-term wear of a cock cage does cause penis shrinkage. If you’re a long-term chastity enthusiast, does it really matter if your penis shrinks as a result? A half-inch wouldn’t even be noticeable even for guys who already own a smaller dick. But even if the shrinkage was more in the range mentioned in the previous section, so what? If a guy is going to wear a chastity device more or less permanently, then his dick’s length seems a moot point.

But if the specter of possible penis shrinkage is something that terrifies you, then my advice would be to wear a cock cage for a week at a time with two-day breaks in between stints of chastity. If chastity device induced shrinkage is a real thing, then you could be confident that any shrinkage would be minimal (within the theoretical half-inch range).

I’m not particularly concerned about penis shrinkage myself. I’m nowhere close to porn star size, and truthfully I’ve never suffered from insecurities over my very average-sized penis. The genetic lottery determines penis size. Most guys are average-sized. Only a small percentage of men on either side of the bell curve have very large or very small penises. Despite the ads you see on various porn sites, you can do nothing to grow a bigger dick. So, my question is this. Why waste time worrying about something you cannot change?

My Experience After Six Months

While I don’t claim my results are scientific, I have measured my Johnson before ordering custom-made cages, so I have a good handle on my normal flaccid size. And, like most of you (okay, admit it, all of you), I’ve measured my dick when it was erect. With those measurements in mind, here is what I discovered after six-months in a chastity cage. No change.

My flaccid length was about a half inch shorter for a day or two after taking off the device. But by the third day, my soft penis was the same size as when I ordered my Mature Metal cage. Also, I measured the erect length four days after taking off the cock cage after six-months and again observed no change in length.

Medical professionals tell us some things cause penises to shrink. For example, as you get older, your penis and testicles may get slightly smaller. One reason is the buildup of fatty deposits in your arteries, reducing blood flow to your penis. This can cause withering of the muscle cells in the spongy tubes of erectile tissue inside your penis. Also, things like decreased testosterone levels and lifestyle causative factors like smoking and weight gain can cause the penis to get slightly smaller.

After six months of continuous wear, I saw no permanent shrinkage due to wearing a chastity cage. I have yet to see any scientific or otherwise compelling evidence that proves long-term chastity causes penis shrinkage. I’m going to put this one in the myth category.

Nocturnal Penile Tumescence

Nocturnal penile tumescence, better known outside medical circles as night-time erections, is a normal occurrence for healthy men. The cause of nocturnal erections isn’t fully understood. But scientific studies suggest they’re closely associated with the phase of sleep known as rapid eye movement (REM) sleep. A healthy man can expect to get hard three to five times per night. Also, “morning wood,” waking with an erection is the same animal as the night-time erections.

Some medical professionals say that night-time erections keep your penile tissue soft and stretchy. They also prompt the smooth muscles in your penis to relax, allowing the blood to rush in and get you hard. That keeps it in fighting shape for when you’re awake and want to use it for various pleasurable activities. Without this regular sleep time workout, some urologists believe the muscles may become too contracted, and eventually, the length of your erect penis may shorten.

Frankly, I can’t say whether you stop having nocturnal penile tumescence when you start wearing a chastity cage or whether you just stop noticing them. I still do wake on occasion with my willy filling the cage, though I haven’t awakened in the middle of the night in a long while with an attempted erection. But I was one of those fortunate guys who never had any real issues with painful night-time erections even when I slept wearing a chastity device the first time. In only a few days, they didn’t even wake me anymore.

I didn’t awaken in the middle of the night with a boner a single time after removing the cage after six-months, so I can’t claim night-time erections returned for me (assuming they ever left), but beginning on the third morning after taking the cage off, I started waking up hard again. Lesson learned? At least after six-months of continual wear, to my knowledge, my chastity cage has not negatively impacted my everyday experience of nocturnal penile tumescence.

The Dreaded Erectile Dysfunction (ED)

Rivaling only the shrinkage myth is the fear of long-term chastity device wear induced ED. From time to time, I visit a chastity forum replete with accounts from guys who claim they suffered erectile dysfunction from wearing chastity devices. All of these sufferers of chastity device induced ED are always self-diagnoses, of course. None that I’ve heard of had consulted a practitioner of the healing arts. Also, none shared anything about their general health history, drug use, or mentioned possible two-pack a day smoking habits.

Like penis shrinkage, doctors tell us that medical conditions, particularly diabetes or heart conditions, other chronic health conditions, tobacco use, and obesity, cause erectile dysfunction. Anything that restricts blood flow to veins and arteries can cause it. But currently, there exists no scientific evidence that long-term wear of a chastity device causes ED.

Some urologists have expressed concerns that cock cages may interfere with normal nocturnal penile tumescence, which they say “could” result in erectile dysfunction, but none have actually observed it.

Based on my six-month experience, I can say that I detected not even a hint of ED. In the wee morning hours of December 1, I masturbated to orgasm (okay, more than once if we must get technical) for diagnostic testing purposes only, of course. I experienced normal, firm erections, and all the plumbing worked in good order. While I can’t say definitively that chastity device induced ED isn’t possible, so far, I’ve seen no compelling evidence that it occurs.

My One Surprising Observation

There is one rather peculiar penis change I have observed after my six-month sojourn into extended chastity. Sadly, I was circumcised shortly after birth, as many of you were. I still haven’t forgiven my parents for choosing to mutilate me as an infant without even discussing it with me first. But after six months in my cage, I’m now sort of uncut.

For some bizarre, unknown reason, my glans now spontaneously pull back inside the remnants of my foreskin with only a small portion of the tip showing. I’m at a loss to explain why this happens. My glans are always fully visible when I wear my cage, so why they have chosen to retreat when I’m not wearing a cage is mystifying. I must even press lightly with my thumb and index finger on the tip of my shaft to make the glans appear when I need to pee. Otherwise, it tends to interfere with an accurate stream.

The only possible explanation I can think of is this. I purposely ordered my Amicus device about three-quarters of an inch shorter than my normal flaccid size. That’s because I’m a bit enamored with micro-chastity at the moment, and I like experiencing a little “turtling” effect. The shorter cage also ensures that the tip of my dick is firmly against the end of the cage at all times, which allows me to pee while standing in the usual male fashion. I don’t know that the shorter cage is the cause behind my new uncircumcised look, but it’s the only thing I can think may have caused it. Nevertheless, I’ve locked up again now and can’t say whether this condition is permanent or not.

The bottom line is I observed no ill effects from spending six months wearing a chastity device.

In other news, I’m still awaiting the arrival of the Holy Trainer Nano. At the moment, like Clark Griswald’s bonus check, it seems to be MIA. The last tracking update I received said the package was at a USPS facility in Chicago on November 27. I haven’t received an update since.

Hopefully, it is working its way through the bowels of the infamously glacially moving U.S. Postal Service and will become a dump in my mailbox soon. Know what? There are a lot of people these days clamoring to replace capitalism in this country with socialism. I always wonder if they have ever considered our postal service, America’s first flirtation with a socialist, government-run business? Seriously, these people. Do they really want their health care, housing, and everything else their lives depend on delivered with the same glorious inefficiency as their mail? But that’s a whole other story.

Until next time, take care, and thanks for reading.
